APNA FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

FRIDAY 17TH JUNE 2022

NORWOOD GREEN

My name is Salmaan and I am writing about the boy’s football tournament on Friday 17th of June.  When we arrived, all teams were called up to the tents to listen to the national anthem. After that, the matches began. In our first match, we were not competitive enough, however this changed in our second match as we were much more aggressive.  Unfortunately, we didn’t clear the ball from the goal area which led to our opponents scoring in the last few minutes of the match. After our defeat, Mr Coakley gave us a simple option; go home or continue playing and give it our all. Before our third match, we all motivated each other and were determined to win the rest of the games. We won our third match and were ecstatic. After lunch, we were placed into the vase tournament. We gave everything all and tried our hardest and we found ourselves in the final. During the e games which led to the finals, we won multiple close games and we even won a penalty shootout. With the sun beating down on us and both teams exhausted, we worked together as a team and eventually won 4-0! All of our hard work in P.E and football after school clubs paid off! It was a great day and we were all elated. But it was because of our teachers, Mr Coakley and Mr Dowden, who encouraged us throughout the whole day and through every match we played.

Today was a great day for the school as we were finally able to bring a trophy home from a tournament! At the start of the year the boys were eliminated from a tournament in the first round but since then they have been determined to improve and as a result they have worked hard in PE lessons and after school clubs. Both sides that went to the tournament did a fantastic job of representing the school because of the behaviour, resilience, support and hard work they all displayed. It was an extremely hot day but none of the children let it affect them and they deservedly came home with trophies and medals. Great job boys!!
