Applying for Secondary School – Year 6
Moving from primary to secondary school is an important milestone for children and their families. At Tudor Primary School, we work closely with pupils, parents and carers to help make the transition to secondary school as positive and successful as possible.
Supporting Your Child's Transition
Tudor Primary School has established links with local secondary schools, helping to support a smooth transition for our Year 6 pupils.
Throughout Year 6, we support children in preparing for the next stage of their education. Where appropriate, we communicate with receiving secondary schools to ensure that relevant information is shared and that pupils who may require additional support with transition are identified.
We encourage parents and carers to attend secondary school open evenings and events with their child so that they can make an informed decision about the schools they wish to include on their application.
Applying for a Secondary School Place
Parents and carers must apply for a secondary school place through the local authority where they live at the time of application, even if the secondary schools they wish to apply for are located in a different borough.
For children transferring from Year 6 to Year 7 in September 2027, the deadline for submitting an application is:
31 October 2026
It is important that applications are submitted by this deadline. Applications received after 31 October are normally treated as late applications and may not be considered until after applications received on time have been processed.
Parents and carers are encouraged to:
research the secondary schools they are considering;
attend school open evenings and visits;
read each school's admissions and oversubscription criteria carefully;
consider how likely their child is to meet the admissions criteria;
include the appropriate number of school preferences on their application; and
submit the application before the closing date.
National Offer Day
National Offer Day is 1 March 2027.
Parents and carers who apply online will be able to find out which secondary school their child has been offered through the admissions process.
Families should follow the instructions provided by their local authority regarding accepting or declining the school place and any relevant deadlines.
